When 2 States led to a yes!

November 23, 2009 in general Posts

Hi all,

Got a lovely mail from an uncle, who helped reach a decision with 2 States. See the actual mail below ( some actual details hidden). Made my day. Who said books don’t make a difference?

Love,

Chetan

Dear Chetan,

My family and myself have always been your fan from the time I laid my hands on your first novel.I have not only read them but also gifted them to my customers(I am a restaurateur) and relatives. This last book of yours namely 2 states appears as though its my family story.

I am a punjabi sharma and my daughter has fallen in love with a keralite boy(have to mention boy because now our constitution allows lesbain marriages too). I will be insulting Punjabi blood if I deny the protest drama that took place. The protest was followed by an angioplasty on me. This too did not deter the love birds. All this happened in October 2008.

Now the marriage is slated for 21st December 2009. The boy is a Lieutanant with Indian navy. Your book has acted as balm to my deliberately delayed decision.I now have no regrets.

I have planned to gift your book to my invitees on the wedding night.I hope your publisher would consider to erect a small kiosk and you would honour me by gracing the occassion.
Please consider this as a personal invitation.

Date 21st December 2009. Time Marriage ceremony 10.30 a.m (Keralite style}
Reception Punjabi Style 8.00pm onwards.

    Hi Chetan,

This is a big fan of urs, a girl who has started loving books and making them her friend just coz of u.

Lovely to hear that the book is bringing a change in society. Seems that u r achieving ur objective which u also mentioned in 2 states, becoming a writer “Someone who tells stories that are fun but bring about change too. The pen’s mightier than the sword, one of the first proverbs we learnt, isn’t it?”
    So Chetan, “Isn’t it?”
    Congrats…..:)

    Eagerly waiting for 3 idiots.

Your regular reader, fan, admirer nd well wisher
    Regards

I too am undergoing a similar tryst! Me a Mallu and the girl a Bong, I had written my story on my blog… then I was surprised to read Two States!! It is a really fast, engaging and a book with real sense of humor! I could find myself laughing aloud reading the book!! :D

    Read my story: http://vnovin.wordpress.com/2009/09/03/east-meets-south-with-a-bang/

    Cheers!

    Hi Chetan,

I am a big tamilian fan of yours(Now settled in new Delhi)…actually to tell u the truth i read your book while coming from Chennai to New Delhi in the non stop Durranto express and i really enjoyed as i knew the two cultures personally…The way you started your dedication of this book actually many men will not have the guts to do so …hats off…then really when i read the first page where u said u ill make fun of south Indian people it really hurt me…but tell u frankly i have never saw any North Indian guy Vouch for us like you…thanks …and one more thing the other day i read a article where you said why you are pricing less then 100 rs per book ….that is very good idea of yours hope some other “”Indian”" authors follow this …i hope u know where i read that article(Its from Our HINDU)… Ok last this is my personal view please sell the rights of this book to a Tamil producer preferably either Prakash raj (In Tamil)or Dil Raju(in Telugu)if u have not heard about this names ask Anni she will help you because your first three novels were made in into Hindi films at least this you can make it in Tamil then we all believe what u told in the starting of the book….

    Take care
    cheers

    Dear Chetan,

I have read all of your books. Your books reveal you are enjoy watching people and your mixture of facts and fantacy is excellent. I Have a request, I am not particularly interested in the rituals of our marriage. But I hope every ritual has a meaning. You have lot of fan following and when you write such books, you also try to explain the meaning also. Only rediculing makes us lough and forget the book. Atleast as a epilouge you can do this. This will enable people like us to undetstand why such rituals are in place.
    thanks
    siva

    Chetan,
We really needed someone who can make ppl break regional barrier. We live in globalized world but still some guy believes that his state is meant only for his state ppl. I hope ur book can at least educate young gen n force them to think n let their parents also think the same. Pls dont let ur pen stop moving!!

    Expecting more from u!
