When 2 States led to a yes!

November 23, 2009 in general Posts

Hi all,

Got a lovely mail from an uncle, who helped reach a decision with 2 States. See the actual mail below ( some actual details hidden). Made my day. Who said books don’t make a difference?

Love,

Chetan

Dear Chetan,

My family and myself have always been your fan from the time I laid my hands on your first novel.I have not only read them but also gifted them to my customers(I am a restaurateur) and relatives. This last book of yours namely 2 states appears as though its my family story.

I am a punjabi sharma and my daughter has fallen in love with a keralite boy(have to mention boy because now our constitution allows lesbain marriages too). I will be insulting Punjabi blood if I deny the protest drama that took place. The protest was followed by an angioplasty on me. This too did not deter the love birds. All this happened in October 2008.

Now the marriage is slated for 21st December 2009. The boy is a Lieutanant with Indian navy. Your book has acted as balm to my deliberately delayed decision.I now have no regrets.

I have planned to gift your book to my invitees on the wedding night.I hope your publisher would consider to erect a small kiosk and you would honour me by gracing the occassion.
Please consider this as a personal invitation.

Date 21st December 2009. Time Marriage ceremony 10.30 a.m (Keralite style}
Reception Punjabi Style 8.00pm onwards.

I’ll say that the books you write do talk about the social evils in our society, rather than just being funny.

Your 1st book talked about how parents just force their kids to take up ambitions for which they don’t feel the same way.

The 2nd book talked about the youth’s lack of spiritualism in the present scenario.

3rd talked about the evil of the religious riots.

4th about the disconnect in our country when it comes to forming relations with people across the country.

Really a great effort and am happy that the books are helping in change the attitude of people across ages, regions and sex.

    Go Chetan Go!!

I first read ‘The Alchemist’, it inspired me a lot. And I am very happy to say that ur books also give me the same satisfaction that I get when I read Coelho. Very inspiring and close to heart.Go ahead, write many books..I ll read it till my family write the Epitaph on my tomb stone. :)

    Hello Chetan,

Hi, i am shreyas, 17yrs, Bangalore
It was just awesome reading all your books upto date you have been a superb writer. To tell you frankly i just was going through one night in the call center a few months ago. Well that was the first book i read in my life i just don’t read story books. I was encouraged by my sis she was reading it one night and i asked here whats this new book you got she told me “One night at the call center”.
I was like well then fine give it to me i will read it for a while she never trusted me cause not once in life have i touched any story books. I spend all my time in front of computer designing for either ad agencies or for some other purpose as i am a graphic designer and a web designer.
that was the time you know i actually got into the habit of reading your my guru i don’t know but you are the one motivated me to read and i m proud to say that. Your books are soawesome my god the way yoou brought out the sequences is mind blowing.
So i just took time and i thought why not i write a book.
Well that’s weird but yea its true i am writing a book now completed the book. I don’y wanna reveal anything about it
but to the level of my language this is true sroty of 110 pages. Well i am just waiting for funds.
I am proud once again to say your my motivator and my guru towards the path of success.
And ya let me not forget your 2 states was another superb book. Keep Rocking.

    Rgds,
    Shreyas.V
Waiting for more books from you !

That’s a great piece of news. You are a hero, Chetan. I feel so bad now when I remember that I wasn’t able to meet you or even listen to you when you were there at my college. Had some other important work to do that time but the regret shall always stay with me unless I get to meet you someday. I have loved your books and have been a fan ever since I read FPS which I consider the best book that you have written. Looking forward to the release of 3 idiots and I am sure you must be excited to see the story unfold on the big screen. Best of Luck and please bring the fifth book soon.

“Hi Chetan…. I njoied it thoroughly…… Eagarly waiting for ur next book . . Rgds. Sachin”

    Hi Chetan,
I’m an avid reader of your books but never owned any of them. You will be happy to know that ‘2 States’ is now part of my permanent collection and am sure this is one book which is going to be the Bible for many couples who are facing a similar situation due to the North South divide.
I’m also eagerly waiting for the release of 3 idiots and I sincerely hope the film does as well as the book. Its an added bonus that Aamir Khan is doing the film as I’m a huge fan of his films.
Wishing you all the very best. Hope you get a good theme to start on your next book soon.
    Yours Truly,
    Meenakshi.
