Just a quick short post

Filed under: General — admin @ 7:10 am

Dear All,
Just a quick short post. Things have been hectic and the response to 3 quite overwhelming. I am still in the middle of launches and so life will settle down only after a few weeks. I have read each and every comment and fan mail that has come to me. The sheer volume makes it difficult to reply (and please forgive me for not), but I do want to thank you for making the effort to give me feedback. And if you liked the book, thanks once more.
Everything about 3 was beyond expectations for myself and everyone in the team. The opening sales, the media attention, the volume of fan mail, the frenzy at the launches.
I am still under equipped at handling all this. I knew the books were popular - but so much? I went to McDonald’s at CST and three people came to me. I had sauce smeared on my face - not very youth icon like at all.
I am trying to come up with a system to better respond to readers, an area where I can definitely improve. To that effect, I am cutting down on media stories for now. I think I have said enough and people have seen the yellow book and me enough times. I have four more cities left for the launches in this phase, and it will end in the next 10 days. The ad is below, see if you can come. Please do.
The most important thing is, a large number of people have liked the book. To match up to the last two is an achievement in itself. I want to thank you for giving these new characters a place in your heart. I had big concerns given the topic, but I have received so many complimentary mails from Gujarat as well. When I received the first mail praising 3 from Ahmedabad, I cried.
More soon.

Love,
Chetan

  3. Chetan

I confess to having heard about your books but not (yet) reading them. I just came off listening to a radio interview on PBS (public radio.. this was probably a syndicated show by BBC) in which you talk about your book and the influence of Ayn Rand (which a lot of IITians even 10 years before your time were exposed to.. probably still continues). My 10 year old thought that the title of 3 was “brilliant”.

If you have the time please peruse through http://www.freedom.sabhlokcity.com/ which is a group trying to make ideas based on freedom have an impact.

  6. Don’t mind Chetan.. but your 3rd book is the biggest piece of crap that I’ve ever read .. We don’t need a writer like you to tell us what happened in Gujarat.. I guess you must have realized it even while starting to write this book that this book won’t sell.. that’s why you have included what we call in Indian parlance as “item number” in the form of Ali’s cricket story. The way Ali is able to go to Australia is ridiculous and funny. I thought you are a mature writer. You should now become sriptwriter of B grade movies. I am sure you will do a good job. Your ending was exactly similar to all of Mithun’s movies ending. Keep up the crappy job and soon you will have to take up your job of investment banking in Hong Kong again.

I don’t think people will now buy your book based on face value. They will think hundred times now. Take a break.

  13. Dear Chetan…

finished d book….quite an engaging and entertaining read i must say. However i do have a few critical comments to make..
1 - i thought the characterisation (as compared to ur earlier two books, n thats ur forte) seemed a li’l weak, particularly OMI’s. Really was unable to visualise him….n so cudnt react to what happens to him during climax.

2 - Unlike the previous two reads, this one dsnt compel to think, or dsnt make a strong ’self-realisation’ kind of a moral thought. The earlier books along with all the entertainment and youthful ness….were able to convey a strong message for the young. THIS I FOUND MISSING IN ‘3′…

having said dat….i again say i enjoyed the read. ur style of narration….typical muvi style of presentation….d characters….and mixing of the real n the fiction…which generates some striking dark humour is surely laudable.
I also appreciate the use of godhra riots in ur plot. I guess the event has never been presented in such a manner. I was going thru other responses and some people have disliked ur use of violence and depiction of riots. I being from ahmedabad know what these riots were and what they did to thousands of people. I appreciate it. And as a young individual from ahmedabad, my anguish got a match in Ishan’s stand to protect ALI. I wish all of us cud be like him. Also d plot that ALI was readily accepted in Australia even as a citizen…n in his own country he had to fight to survive….ppl wanted to kill him…luvd dat thing….amazing.
I am reminded of the riots and the remorse dat had filled me than….sm thing i had wrote than, 6 years back … i wish to share it wid u n fellow fans…….

will ctch ya while u r in ahmedabad….

  14. Hi Chetan
Let me start of by congratulating you on your third book, which like the other two is expected to be huge hit and another national bestseller from you. After finishing the book, all I could think was it had to be a Chetan Bhagat book cos no other writer can pass on a social message to the masses with such simplicity. Kudos to you!!!
However the book seems to imply an arguable acceptance that the secular parties are better, and it was the saffron brigade behind the mass homicides in Gujrat.
I am not a Gujrati and neither do I have any political views as such, but I do feel that the latter part of the book could have been handled with much care and neutrality.
Id like congratulate you again and wish you all the best for the forthcoming films of yours.

  15. My views on “The Three Mistakes of My Life”…………….

Awakening a generation to reading takes more than some sheer magic and Chetan has proved that in sense more than one, he’s an Indian Rowling.

With his third novel, he has matured lot more and has ably intertwined serious real issues like Riots, Earthquakes, Cricket, Religions and Politics in a single package.

Characters in his tale are larger than life and often you feel them coming to life and making you feel emotions in a way, you never thought was possible.

His witty humor retains the charm exhibited in his previous worlds of IIT & Call Centers. Like his earlier works, his words on paper will soon translate to a colorful life on 35 mm this time as well.

A reader is left dumbstruck as Chetan captures the real soul of India in Cricket and spins a suspense marvel, which you can’t put down till Ali hits a six in London.

A blissful forbidden romance in midst of all gruesome tensions lends a special charm and Vidya’s persona scores a perfect century without even a single swing of a bat.

The delicacy of religious sentiments, the ferociousness of riots, the shrewdness of politics, the felicity of love, the bond of friendship and the craze of cricket everything finds an apt place in his imaginations.

Chetan is the undisputed King of author’s fraternity and no doubt his books have smashed sales records of 7 figures with ease.

Critics may continue questioning Chetan’s contribution to the literary universe, but the truth remains that words from his pen pluck the strings of Indian hearts in every dimension, like nothing else.

  18. Hello!!
I completed the 3 mistakes in my life on 16thmay well i was completely surprised to see that there was no reference in the book how this guy govind has chetan in his life like why govind email’s chetan .i felt there shud have some reference of govind having a corner for chetan’s books or refernce he went through his books in the entire story which was not there in book as far as my knowledge is concerened.
Perhaps it was a disappointment from The Gr8 Chetan Bhagat they way the book The three mistakes in my life is written b;coz not many of us in our generation have been a part of the gujrat riots because we were in different geographical areas nor believed in the news reports or political advertisements .but as the youth we today believe a lot in chetan i wished u could have done it better u potrayed it in very different manner and thus giving a different mindset to the readers who wud first handely think the way u have made them think.. like how hindus were responsible for the same . i don;t want to go the religion aspect but u failed to balance this aspect ultimately showing much fervor to secularism which is not so secular. i m sorry if i have hurted u in anyway but i respect u as a individual and would always as writer to but too but u being resident of ambavadi would have a made the later half of the book much better…b’coz more youths wud read ur book for sure and carry the same opinion abt the people of one particular religion…instaed of knowing the truth and acts done by other side too
All the very best to u.

  20. Dear Mr Bhagat

Congratulations on the occasion of the release of your third book” The 3 mistakes of my life”. After reading your earlier two books, I was keen to read third one. It was disappointment. We know that earlier two books inspired bollywood to make Hindi movies on them. Unfortunately 3 is inspired by bollywood masala movies. (Lagan & Rang de) Climax chapter is as boring & lengthy as 70’s Hindi Movie climax scenes. Finally “Gujarat”, like any News channel or Hind Serial or Reality shows on Indian television, Background of Gujarat & Gujarati family is used to gain popularity & money

I must say, this book is your FIRST MISTAKE atleast…the way story ends made me feel, what crap am i reading. And i still finished it reading as i had paid for the book.I dont know what message are you going to convey. The book did not follow the proper flow of writing as it was in previous 2 books..
It really felt that you wrote this book just for the sake of writing..and not by heart.Or may be that our expectations grew too much with you..And it is really difficult to keep up with it everytime..

  31. Hi Chetan

I read your FPS before anyone knew you, i enjoyed it a lot, cause i think that conneced with me some way or the other, you have a particular style to connect to ordinary men,i enjoyed it because it was very different from what i have read or was reading. So I will place FPS on the top of your books, for any one who want to adopt reading as a habbit should start with this book, it is short crisp and straight. One night of call center was also excellent but some where GOD calling didnt go well with me, to hear one’s inner vioce there could be another ways also. We Indian love to dream and love to Dream of things that are approchable not for some thing or some one like GOD. When i finished 3 Mistakes.. you look to me like Kaan Johar (catching and holding the nerves of the audiences) you have not left any thing that we are crazy for, cricket, girl, friends, politics, communilasim and all. I think suffering makes it more commercial. But in the end my mind was looking for some answers 1> Being over ambition and taking cacullated risk can be counted as mistake…. 2> Being a bit selfish to be counted a big mistakes..

Whatever said i really enjoyed it, thumbs up to you.

PS. Young generation try to figure out there role model from Movies they see and Books they read so be a little carefull while writing.

Just now I finished your third book ‘3 mistakes in my life’. I must say you have really done a fabulous job. Story was really cool and felt happing when I finished it. Whenever I read your stories, I always feel like I’m watching a movie. The feel of the book is so real that I’m forced to think as everything is real… Really happy to know that 2 of your books are getting movied and looking forward to watch it when it get released. I felt the ending of this stroy was too bollywoodish… NOM. I’m not criticising you. I’m just saying my opinion about it.
Also, along with your third book, your writing style has improved a lot that I feel more good when I read our third book.
    Congrats Dude.
Keep up the good work. Do write and you are also gifted like Ali ;). Waiting for your next book.

  34. Dear Sir,

I grabbed your ‘3′ yesterday with lot of expectations and thrills. Congratulations on projecting Ahmedabad on worldscale. However, let me be honst the book is good but not up to the mark of FPS and ONATCC. Events are too fast to be credible. It does not make the readers empathise with the characters like the earlier two novels. Factual details of cricket match affects fiction.
However, a good writer like you always will have some appealing points as well: (1) emotions of ahmedabadis during the earthquake are projected superbly. (2) passion of indians for cricket is portrayed effectively. (3) you have been successful in not repeating themes, characters, messages which is creditworthy. (4) most important of all - AFFORDABILITY - you care for your readers’ pockets!
Looking forward to more novels. You make us wait a lot.

  35. Dear Chetan,

Congratulations on your third book, which i liked the most as i am a resident of Ahmedabad working in Mumbai.(especially the description of Ahmedabad on Page 7-8)
What I liked the most in the book that you have touched most 3 sensitive issues (Cricket, Politics and religion) of India in such a way, that anyone can start taking interest in those. which is essential for todays youth, as todays news papers and new channel publish 90% news revolving around these 3 subjects.
but I am afraid at a stage, that this might not turned out in to a first mistake of your life, as history says..those authors have touched sensitive subjects like religion and politics in their fictious creation, they had to suffer, i.e Taslemma Nasreen, Salman Rushdie etc.
I hope and pray for you that you will not be misunderstood by our politicians and religious leaders.
Second, what makes me proud that you have portrayed Ahmedabadis as a businessmen, those who forsee realities.
I have not completed te book but initial 100 pages were so exciting that I have finished in one evening during my train and bus journies.

    Cheers!!!

  36. Dear chetan,

Conratulations for success of your two releases and congratulations again for the third release.

I was in the engieering college when your book FIVE POINT SOME ONE got published. Though I was not an IITian still reading your Book I could relate it to my college life and thought that I would really miss all those fun moments which are generally there in all engineering colleges. It deserved to be the Bestseller and nodoubt was for about Four Years.

Secondly I am working in a MNC and having a respectable white collar Job. But reading your second Book ONE NIGHT AT THE CALL CENTRE I realised how people struggle in their professional as well as personal matters. You beautifully figured out in the book that its your inner voice which is your ultimate guide and you just need to put an effot and GOD is always with you. Thanks for teaching me that one should never be afraid of failure while failures are way to your success.

And the third thing is I have just started reading THE 3 MISTAKES OF MY LIFE so would not like to comment on that but I am assured that this also wont disapoint me.

Your first Book is so far the Best among other two releases, no doubt they are also good but FIVE POINT SOMEONE will always be my personal favourite

    Some questions from my side.
    1) Your first two releases came in consecutive years i.e. 2004 and 2005 while your third release took other 3 years to come why so?
2)In your second Book you brought out the problems faced by youth in BPO’s but the CALL FROM GOD that they received was also true or it was your imaginative? And the characters depicted in the book are also real? You personally met them? Do you also met the GOD during your journey from kanpur to delhi?
3)(Sorry for getting personal) Your sons’ names are Ishan and Shyam which also forms two of your Book’s characters, any special reason for that?

Looking forward for some more interesting releases from you.I am gr8 FAN of yours. Please do reply if Possible.

    Regards,
    Shruti.

  37. Hi Chetan,

I dont know whether u’ll read my post or not but i am eager to write you.Day before yesterday only i bought your latest book “3 Mistakes of my life” and i started last night. Still its not finished but the curosity is on high to know if its a realistic story? I’ve read 5 point … and as per my idea that’s based on your college memories. But tell me if all what you write is true? I am not a very frequent reader but i like the way you express your thoughts. It feels like the one who is reading is present their.Since last few days my family was going thru bad phase & i was so out of touch of evrything happening in this world. & now when i am back to work and need to refresh my mind for all new perspective I went to buy some good books.Belive it or not i saw your name on the book and bought it. Now only i surfed and found that its a latest realase of yours. So all the very best to you & a big thanks for writing good books for our generation.

  43. Hi! I have read all your books and a big fan of yours by now. That is not all i wanna say. Chetan, when i read Five point someone, it felt as if it was me, perhaps it all coincided wid my days in hostel. Ur take is..well, something from a guy who once was an engg, a student! Then it was the call center. I was so exited about it all. It had a movie effect on my neurons.I wished the if the novel could have been a movie. And here they go, hello!! Well done, is wat ur take is. But the 3 mistakes!! I can not say by any means i didn’t like it or it wasn’t as good as the last two. But then, just as i finished up reading the book, something stuck me and belive me, this time my prayers were’nt with you. Can you explain me the reason why i felt that you have written the book with a predetermined idea to turn it to a movie at some later pint of time. I could smell only business and was missing the real authour of the five point someone. It was more a reel authour!!
I am waiting for your reply.
About me.. nothing special. A S/W engg working for Cognizant and cursing that i should have never been one. Just got into reading habits owing to an author called chetan bhagat, who seemed out of the world to me THEN….

Congrats for your new release. The 3… consumed my last weekend. After reading the book all I would like to say is that I expected something better out of you. This novel turned out to be yet another story. A bit more mature stuff was expected. Overall the book was an average kinda work.

Completed 3 mistakes last night. No doubt, its again a superb Pan-indian novel. I love the way you write the side-comments in the stories. its the real strength of ur writing. U are going to be most loved writer of India. But some events in 3 are really odd to digest, like Ali’s trip to Australia.

  48. dear chetan
have read all yr three books but sorry to say i was disappointed with 3 mistakes thats why i m writing 2 u.
in all the three novels you have now some things common
    a goop of friends
a love story and one sex chapter
happy endings with a lot to tell…rather some untold endings like one can assume the future of characters..
the sex has to happen in sudden and not so common place like car or bed of professor or terrace this time

i wd suggest please try some thing different next time
i m not a critic but a reader of you so please take mah words in good spirits

  49. Hi Chetan

Dear you must be getting mixed reactions on 3… i liked it,but still its no where in front of the other 2 books of yours.there’s something that is missing in the book may be some reality, some humour, some out of the box thing.
but i would like to suggest you that plz try to get something new for the next time.there is nothing special that u hve given to readers this time, that was there in your first and second book of your book, there was excitement there was interest of reading n finding out what happend next, there was truth, there was something that people can believe easily but i didnt find something of this sort in THE 3…every other chapter had the same things that was there in 5. or a night…
we understand that writer cannot write a best stuff everytime, still try and find something different for the next time.
n keep on writting, we guys wait n look frwrd to your book.
    keep it up.

  50. i dont know what exactly i must say but goin thru 3.. was an entirely different…and a new experience…unlikne one night n five point this was something closer to reality…things which happen around us yet remain unobserved…i felt so touched n emotional especially towards the end…being a 17 yr old i dont know if i can say much abt its literary worth or things like that….but one thing i hold onto would be that you certainly have what it takes to be “India’s loved author”
    keep penning!!

  51. Dear Chetan
I was never planning to buy your book but as I read the prologue it was so compelling for me to buy.
Obviously we are not expecting any literary classics from you but there is defenitly no other
author who could strike a chord with the new Indian generation(15-30yrs) in such a way that it is so easy to identify the characters with ourselves or someone around us.I haven`t read your second novel(i have my own reasons for it) but I would say this is one pace ahead of your first novel(or may be two or three).Ahead of 5.someone!!!so its so good …….I don`t think it`s anything more than average(average?a bit flattery?) piece of literature as far as the language is concerned but the plot is such a good that I simply loved reading it . I don`t think there was much better way to finish the story though the climax was not as good as the rest of rthe story( a bollywood type climax is bad?….i dont know). But still I know that Chetan Bhagat is again going to be such a good novelist of the masses ,of the Indian youth like never before. You handled religion ,politics, cricket(the word cricket will not make it any link to lagaan as somone commented..utter nonsense) and sex so well in your novel .Congrats and am sure this will be a superhit .

What i like the best about this book is here you find that people love each other without considering what background and religion they belong too. They can sacrifice their lives for someone belonging to other religion leaving the people from their own religion go to hay way. This is what we need in this world right now.

  58. Hi I have read the book 3 Mistakes of my life and i must say its very well written. The best part of book is it talk about people love and their sacrifice. Some people dont consider religion as a basis to love others and they can sacrifice their lives for it. This is what is needed at this time in the world. We need more people like this so that we can over this religion matter of doing or justifying things happening around us.

I always reading your book. They have a touch of freshness in them. And you are an honest writer…you feel therefore you write. The best part about your writing i sthat it is so Indian. we can relate to it.
I must comment that the cover of your book is very well designed!!!A bright yellow…backdrop of life…and three pillars of mistakes…shadows..that haunts us..shadows that are deep there in our minds…shadows that we are made of.
You are an intelligent writer..you know how to utilize the different social and cultural realms..that flows…in the choosen context.
Just a suggestion..Chetan, since you had lived over in Hongkong..I would like to hear from you…some stories from that land. I am sure you can enlighten your reader on that.
Got a long way to go.

As soon as I started reading ” the 3 mistakes in my life”, I couldn’t keep it down, finished in one stretch. That was big thing in my life. Great effort to stick reader’s with book till it ends. 74. Hi Chetan,

This is Sourav and I am a avid reader of wide variety of subjects. I write stories as well, so I will be little critical about your work. No Doubt your style of writing is lucid, fast paced and youthful.
But I felt the characterisations you have portrayed is quite similar to the one of 5 point someone. Govind is similar to Hari,
Ish as Ryan and the other fellow as Omi. The love angle was similar, there it was love angle with prof’s daughter to provide the drama; here it is Ish’s sister. There you had showed Ryan’s troubled relationship with his parents, here it is Ish who is having problem with his father. Mom Son angle has been added here which was present in 5 point someone.

The story is also on the similar lines…problems, problems and more problems and how one comes out of it.

But apart from the critical point I enhoyed reading it and gonna reccomend it as well.

    Thanks,
    Sourav

jst wanted 2 tell dat m a bit disappointed with ur 3rd book. I too like many people, felt it to be similar to 5 point someone. No doubt it had some of the Chetan Bhagat Magical moments, but still overall it lacked somewhere. I also felt dat towards d end u rushed a bit. It felt incomplete. But having said all dat i never mean to say I did not enjoy it. It was fun. but it was not something dat would surpass 5 point someone as my all time fav book. awaiting eagerly to ur next book and hope dis time it would topple 5 point… from d top.

  77. hey chetan,

Well obviously congrats for the latest one…was really enjoying and thrilling too..but must admit
that like many other bollywood directors or daily soaps may be somewhere down the line u r also getting predictable ..which is not that bad i mean as this happens this time only..i mean one who wud have read FPS can easily corelate many sequences in the “3 mistakes “..that too if u happens to be from iit or so…(as almost evey iit student must have read FPS)..for instance the three characters and their similarities with those of FPS’s..then the explanation of intimate scenes between Govind and vidya..and plenty more..dont wana reveal more actually!..to cut long thing short.u need to press refresh button in ur mind if u really want to raise the bar in future ..and not bore people with the very predictable daily soap kind a stuff..i mean u shud keep ahead of readers brain..seriously u shud try n make them guessing all the way and not let them able to anticipate what is going to be next..thats it..but apart form that a must read for all.and that too in one clean sweep..i had complete night out for this :) ..worth it eventually..(if u weigh with the grueling ED tute missed at IITD ;))

  80. Hello Chetan,
It was really good to read “3″. Honestly I feel it was a brave effort because it was an not-so-easy-but-amazing story to tell. Unfortunately, to my liking I found it a bit too ‘filmy’. There are some really good take aways from this book, but I like “Reconciliatory measures (the kissing chimps :o) ) the best.

I have read all three books and find “ON@CC” the best, even though I m am engineer. The characters were great and storyline 10/10. At the end of the day your books are wonderful stressbusters and are surely putting smiles across millions of youngsters of this country. We are very fortunate to read your books and would love to read many more coming from a fantastic storyteller in you.

Finally, thanks for chatting with me at Bandstand, Bandra and giving me 15 mins of Live “Chat with Chetan” on the sets.

    Best Regards

  84. Hi Chetan,

I am one of your young readers. I am in class 10th and thanks for coming to Delhi and signing my copy. You know what? Your writing has inspired me a lot! I wrote a book - ‘The Kid of Nowhere’. According to my friends it is pretty good (although I am not sure) but the school refused to issue it in the school magazine, and even suspended me for using “abusive” language, which is a complete bluff, I mean the principal himself is a fan of yours (know this from his daughter, we are friends on orkut) but still he wouldn’t love reading a “fuck” from my side. My parents think that my book is fine and usually talk to the principal for cancelling my suspension. Chetan, I am really feeling bad, I love your books and love the way you represent the youth. Your FPShas inspired my brother to be a IITian and he is one now. He says life is almost similar to what you have written. T3MOML is also a big hit. I have learned a lesson from it, although many people would think that it is foolish, but still I learned a completely different thing from your third book. It is that life is tough so you have to really work hard and earn a living. My school situations are like hell so I am a bit worried. I am missing a lot of course taught at school because of this bullshit. I know i might have pissed you off, but still just wanted to convey that your work rocks, so they would prefer the informal and normal youth language from your side only. Not from a teenager. Take care Chetan, and keep writing. Hope that your wife and kids are fine. I have to say, your twins are really cute! :-)

    From yours most affectionate reader,
    Aishwarya

  87. Hello Chetan, never ever read a book in my life until for the reasons not known to me I picked up the ‘the 3 mistakes of my life’ and was so intrigued by it that I couldn’t let go off it until I had actually finished reading the whole book in a single day and read ‘one night @ the call centre’ next day and followed by “five point someone” following day. I don’t remember last time when anything in life has intrigued me as much as you writings had, every single page of all your three books was a joy to go through and now hopefully I won’t have to wait for long for your fourth one, cheers

  88. Hi Chetan,

I am not a big fan of reading but certainly a fan of yours. I wasn’t wrong in getting the 3rd book as soon as I could and you did not disappoint us. I simply love the way you involve yourself in each of your novels at the beginning and the end. Just wanted to know if there is a name to this type of writing style. Also I think you have all the talent to be a movie scriptwriter .. but please do not stop being a novelist as reading is a pleasure for more audiences than seeing a movie.

    Regards

  89. Hello Chetan..hope that you will be fine.
I have very much liked all of your three books. FPS is the best book I have ever read.
I must say..any student who is in college and havn’t read FPS misses some part of college life..tats all from me….
hoping that won’t have to wait much for next book…:-):-)

  90. hii Chetan (bhaiya,sir,_____…whatever suffix u like or love)…

I don’t know wheather u check the comments or not…i don’t know wheather u care about the comments or not.

Still I will spend some of my “non-valuable” time to give a comment.

First of all as a precaution, let me tell u that I am a great fan of your books(Not yours as still I don’t know you personally)…
I don’t know why i like your writings and spend my “valuable” time(during exams toO) many times by repeatedly revising your books.I bet I will get a 100% score if any exam is conducted based on ur books.
    ok…preautionary part is over…

    Everybody have alreasy praised you.
Unlike other people I have a severe complaint against you..I don’t understand why you take so many yrs to write a single novel..don’t say that you don’t get time to write or post writing job is too time taking etc etc…
All human beings have a limited life span and so do I and u.Seeing your novel publishing rate I think I can hardly read some 5 or 7 of your novels in my life time(I am 22 yrs old) if both of us live 60-70 yrs more.I don’t want to die just by reading these many..So I request you to publish at least 1 novel per year so that I can count some 60-70 novels in my book shelf..

    With regards …

gr8 book. loved the way u had interrelated 3 important and diverse events in india’s history.
the ending was a bit too bollywoodish. omi’s character was not strongly etched.
but, was more realistic and darker than d previous 2. u handle dark humour really gr8!!!
just get a liitle high on the the words.
surely, 3 is a smash hit.

i hav read all three books of yours. amongst them i find 3 mistakes the best. i find that u are getting better and better after every book you write. i ahv been a gr8 friend of your books. bt i want to see something better from your side in your next book because i feel you stuck to the same genre in the first three books. bt still the books are grt and i feel there is no piont in praising you as everyone has already praised you a lot and whether i do ir not it doesnt count.
well in short great job chetan bt i xpect something better from you in your next book, if you are writing one.

I have read all your three books! I can see that everyone who is posting here has. I just finished reading the book a couple of hours back. You wont believe, but I couldn’t resist reading on and on that I finished the entire book in one shot. The best part of your books is that any Indian youth can relate to it which makes the whole reading so much better. Looking forward to read your books in the future too! Way to go.. All the best!

  97. Hi Chetan,
I wrote U a mail with the hope You will find time to reply. In d meantime bout 3.
About Ur latest release I read a reader’s comment in Ur blog dat its a bit filmy, sp the end and many things shown are outrageous like Ali’s going to Australia. Ya I agree with that. But then what can be more outrageous than God’s call itself? Aren’t these outrageous things we love? All dese things are our imaginations, our own. In real life Alis may not get treated, may be they get crippled for life but given to our imagination do we Want that? We know Life sucks but for that do we need to give all our films and stories sobby crappy ending? We love to live in our imagination and writers provide just that. I love this thing about books. And I knw there are many more like me. Yaar If we want tension we should analyse our life not go to sm store and buy a book worth 100bucks or see a film in multiplex. Isnt it?

    Hey plz read my mail

Cricket, religion, and business along with Godhra,9/11, Ind Aus test match series, earthquake in Gujrat netted well in a tale of three frinds Govind Ishan and Omi that is what “3 mistakes in my life ” offers to the readers.not to forget the clasisc love story of Govind and Vidya, people are saying it filmy or even i heard people saying it crap. with all humility,i can say, for sure the book kept me glued for 10 hrs and was better than wasting my time on a movie . Chetan you have raised our expectations to pinnacle . This book was good the earier two were better. I belive the best from you is yet to come. Just prove me right writer.

  100. Hi Chetan,
I am just curious to know if you are numerology conscious.i noticed that all your titles begin with numbers(5.someone,1 night@call centres and 3 mistakes of my life)is this intentionaly done or pure coincidence?i am hoping you would reply to my query.
i have liked all your books and you truly rock.

    Comment by Swati — June 5, 2008 @ 3:23 pm

  101. Hi Chetan,

Sanju here. Oh, I’ve already written my name in the NAME (REQUIRED) box. Anyways, 3 according to me, is the least interesting book of the three written by you. I found it lacking in wit, dramatisation and narrative. I found it abrupt towards the end. I found it bollywoodish in many ways.
3 isnt as breezy as one night @ the call center either. To me, 3 is a disappointment although I knocked it off in under 200 minutes, taking two longish cigarette breaks in between. The characters failed to remain with me. Hari, Alok, Ryan, Cherian and Neha are still memorable characters in that sense. And I am quoting their names offhand you see! And I am sure I got their names right.
Five Point Someone was brilliant. Not cult-like, but damn good and unputdownable. I’ve gifted over a dozen to friends and even persuaded people who took an aversion to reading, to read it. In the process, I converted many fence-sitters into potential readers.
In fact, 3 was recommended by one such guy to me, who, these days, is a huge fan of your writing.
I wanted to come over last Sunday to Big Bazaar, Kothrud, Pune and meet you but I was done with the book by then and I just said to myself ‘Might as well enjoy the sunday siesta’
Well, maybe I am a bit over-critical, or I probably expect you to push the envelope further, but I reckon Five Point Someone is the benchmark you should look up to all the while. And then try and better it. However at 95 bucks, its worth every single naya paisa.

    Cheers,

    A disappointed Sanju.

n frankly speaking…..i dunno y i m typing all this to u ‘coz i really doubt tht this text is ever going to reach you…..but something in me tells me that its worth a try!
