My column in TOI today on the Pune terror attacks. Do read and give your rational thoughts and ideas on how terrorism can be managed in a practical manner.
HI, no words in term of sympathy, but terrorism is nothing but showing powers, and poor-helpless-people(finally turned terrorists) are brain washed by the name of Jehud, So even we understand but not possible to make them, “mass killing couldn’t be an answer of dragging attention towards themselves”!
Read your article and agree with some parts. GoI need to install POTA and take stern action against terrorists. Our courts can set up fast track action for Shiny Ahuja’s rape case but Kasab is languishing in Indian jails since 26/11, even demanding basmati rice, biryani and what not.
Some lessons should be learnt from Israel, don’t you think so?
the thoughts are right… but the community needs to be educated in th right direction.. we’ve seen well educared people hugging the guns in the past… the right step is to be taken by the lesders of the community and our very own government… the community should take the responsibility otherwise u can’t definitely solve the problem…
This is one of your best coloumns Chetan brother… TV media is really making indian to hate pakistan by conducting those bloody SMS polls like “Do you think Pakistan is our archenemy of chaos in India??” Sms ur answer to this and that number…
this is all rubbish…. Media is provoking people to become Anti-Pakistan….
This is really bad on the part of a country where Mahatma Gandhi lived and preached…
Chetan bro, the last para of the coloumn very nicely put “We cannot take away the pain felt by all affected. However, rational steps can reduce
such horrific acts. They will make way for a more peaceful and better life for Indians,
who’d much rather have chocolate cake with their kids than live a life hating another
community or country.”
Thank You for educating some people like us…
Remember one thing Chetan bro,,,,, there are always people for you… your brothers like me, who follow the path which you showed to us for the country’s development…. we are waiting and wanting and so trying to see a new and developed INDIA before we die….
First thing to do is to reform the police personnel. Create a special cell, a cell which directly reports to the PMO(not like CBI). This cell should have the best brains working for them. So they should revruit top notch minds. Pay them a salary equal to what an IT guy gets in Google.Ensure no intervention from political class.
2 Do a root cause analysis for the terrorism. Who are spawning terrorists. The answer is Pakistan.
Stop everything with pakistan, talks, trade , sports, entertainment… everything. We have to exert some pressure on pakistan.
3 Trap those people who are sponcering the terrorists. These guys should be put in jail with no bail, no matter who they are.
I think if we enforce these fore mentioned constraints, we may actually succeed in preventing another terrorist attack.
Firstly, well done. Yet another well written article.
I do not know how we can solve the problem of terrorism in our country. I only know that India is a country of all talk and no action. Don`t get me wrong, I am not one of those pessimists who say that nothing will ever change in India. It will, it definitely will. But it is a long process.
Coming back to terrorism, I wonder why was America never struck after 9/11! While in India, I can`t help but think about the next attack. One year had passed since 26/11 and I was like, wow, we are doing great to tackle terrorism. And then comes the news of the Pune attack. Our intelligence team has managed to avoid more than one terror attacks in the past one year, all credit to them but every succesful terror attack spoils all that was achieved in the past.
Hopefully, there won`t be any terror attack for quite sometime now. (I am sorry but hoping for more than this would be foolish and irrational).
I think the solution is putting Country before “I”.
This “I” includes everything : state, caste, creed, religion, economic strata etc – which we belong to.
Another thing is removing “absolute Poverty”.
Charm of being well-fed and having all basic necessities specially for those have not even been close to thinking about same can act as a cushion against the brainwashing.
we need to create extremists who are all for a good civil society.
agreeing on most of the issues which you have raised, efforts also r required to remove all the chaos and confusion in public adminstration.
A common man is more frustated when he sees that in poverty stricken country people dont get their basic amenities and on the other hand terrorists are treated like guests !!! And crores of money being spent on keeping them in Jail.
Hang all those thugs…
I ready this article and I was very amazed to see how simply you see the things and see the solution. Main thing I liked about your article is that give everyone opportunity then no one would want to give up his job and do such things but still USA was attacked by some professionals. Also problem of terrorists is problem between two religions. You can see that some educated Hindus support RSS and their agenda. So basic problem is hatred which does not seem to be decreasing. Its a circle, terrorists attack so Hindus suffer then they make some innocent muslims suffer and then it creates terrorists. I do not know how to solve this problem and also how to stop hatred? do you have answer for that?
I am a regular reader of your columns. Doesn’t make any difference chetan. I, you and every one knows what you have said, nothing different. Unable to figure out the exact problem. vamsi
the role of media in these kind of situations is very significant. but unfortunately indian media plays the role of spreading horror all acrposs the country rather than spreading news and lacks in proper reporting. i agrre wid the point u raised abt banning RDX….. govt has to weight the positive outcomes of using RDX the negative outcomes. and we all know what r the nagative outcomes of RDX. the attack on pune is an indication tat no city in this country is safe. but it shud not mean that we shud scare abt this fact.rather we shud be aware of those unusual faces in the crowd.
the article was worth reading chetan.

I know it is indeed very easy for India to blame terrorism and Pakistan. But what about state born terrorists like Bal thakrey and Raj Thackrey? Government never hold talks with either of them and not only them there are many in that league in our country. Some want quota, some want seperate states. Some mob north Indians, some target couples and some target people from other caste and religion.
Every one of these think they are not terrorists but for us they are. So at the end of the day even Shivsena and MNS will call Pak a terrorist state but consider their ownself as a community well wisher.
It is the ideology that is wrong. It is the way of handling things that has went tremendously wrong. We might one day find a solution for ‘Kashmir’ but till then we will have a new issue ‘Telangana’. What is the meaning of one country if every one want seperate state and quotas.
And if we think these ‘terrorists’ and ‘hooligans(Shivsena and MNS’) have some mission or are very committed to their cause then we are fooling ourselves.
Terrorism is a business now. It involves big money. They just make the best advantage of some starving youngsters and traing them to throw bombs and stones and even if needed blow your ownself up to feed your family.
Its just that Bombers have a much better pay package than a stone pelter.
Some are hired by a neighbouring nation and some by your own state.
I may end up writing whole day but words will not stop CB.. just want to say if we can change the ‘Ideology’ we make a difference oe day. And ‘we’ here is not me or you but those who run this business.
When we hear the name “PAKISTAN”, the next thing that comes to our mind is Terrorists.
It has become a belief that all people across the boder spend their time just plotting another terrorist activity. But little do we think that there might be people there, who work, and live the same as we do.
Banning Pakistan from our side will just add fuel to fire, instead preparing ourselves will be a better option.
People protecting us undergo a strict procedure to get themselves selected, but once they get selected, what do they do. They grow up pot bellies. Asked to run for 1000 mts more than 50% will fail. Its time we strengthen our own defence and bring in a sepearate Cell or Unit for maintaining it, which will be out of reach of these political turnarounds.
Terrorism is a disease that killing our country supported by us through corruption, poverty, greed, etc. Unless these are eradicated terrorists will strike. And soon it wont be them will be someone from us fighting for TELANGANA or the ones spreading Naxalism.
Its time that we should Awake and Arise.
Dear Chetan
You’ve described terrorists as deranged people with twisted moral justifications, most probably they are…but then do we do something for preventing people from turning into one of them,or do we do anything for people who are already deranged to prevent them from becoming terrorists ? Also I do not think its just the money that lures people into it.I think due to religion and myths in the indian context psychological problems are not considered disease.People suffering from them are not considered people who need medical help but they are considered losers who cannot stand up for their own.As a society we chose to shun them ,forget about support or help. And very conveniently blame countries like Pakistan for festering terrorism in India.
It is very common reactions after every tragedy that all start blaming someone for the tragedy . What we know is to blame others for our ordeal . As usual first targets are Netas and Pakistan. But it is high time that we all should start thinking what we should do ourselves instead wasting time to think about others actions .
We Indian always want someone else to do something for us . My question is what do we do our self? Can we not be alert of our surroundings and look for suspicious items to prevent such incidents ? Take example of Pune blast case , had the waiter and owner were alert , many lives would have been saved.
We have very little control on what Pakistan does or what our great leaders do , but of course we can have control on how we remain alert when we are out in public places .
Why we are so naive that we really do not care for unaccompanied bags and luggage . Go to any Indian railways station you will find people are least bothered about the safety. Same case will be for cinema hall , shopping center and other public places. Humne sub kuch kismat ke bharose chod diya hai .
I pray not for better leaders but for more alert Citizens . This is high time that we all need to change our thinking and do whatever in our control .
@ shriti….hey dear how many people of pakistan were involved in all the terror attacks took place in india? may b 100, 1000, 1000000 but not the whole pakistan..if u talk abt destroying non muslim nations then u shud know the conditin of pakistan at this particular time. y do us (indians) bcome so violent wen it comes to terrorism as we dont need to . the only way to live is peace and how many times u thot abt AMAN KI ASHA. there r many people who think. it is an intiative of jang group of pak and toi of india.
