Chetan
I liked the idea of showing an excerpt & giving a bonus excerpt on a condition to refer three friends. The first excerpt was interesting enough (in fact more than ‘enough’, it was super!) for me to refer three of my friends! But why Chennai was left out in your league? Should Chennai (with its vibrant youth) should have been your default? Why boss?
And waiting eagerly for May 8th 2008 for the first copy!
All the best!
Regards
Venkatramanan

Boy o Boy, what is a better way to start sunday morning than watching a Chetan Bhagat interview, firing up firefox & reading an excerpt which sounds like another Chetan Classic (yeah, that’s what me & my friends call your books
Can’t wait to get my hands on it, I like the fact that your English isn’t too hi-fi, I hate opening the dictionary on every 3 lines, besides your books are very economical (I guess it’s got to with the fact of Indian author vs foreign author, same as our course books)
Another good thing is that I don’t need bookmarks, 2 sittings is the max that 1 requires for your books, not that they the stories are short, they are far too engrossing (my mom wishes that I sat with the same vigour for my academic studies) but well, who in their right minds would compare a 1 Night At A Call Center to a 1 Electron In The Circuit (no, that’s not a real name, I just coined it)
Anyways, rock on sir, looking forward to Hello, I hope you give my crush Amrita Arora her first blockbuster.
All the best.

Comment by Nimit Shah — May 5, 2008 @ 8:13 pm
Dear Chetan,
you were the first author that me and my husband wrote to and i was maha thrilled to get ur reply too…..i really love books by indian authors coz i can connect more to them and u r one of my favourites…i surely agree with ur view that ur idea is to express and not impress because i only like books that touch my heart and urs defenitely is successful in doing that…i am presently at tvm on a vacation but i would def tell my hubby to try to make it to on the 25th at pune…i would love to get a signed copy….wishing u all the best for ur book …cant wait to grab it..one thing my husband was sure was that u would raise the prize of ur next book…i am surprised to see the same price again….to be honest i must have been one of the first few to buy ur book and the catch was the price…my husband is in the army and since we have library facilities at most stations it was just by seeing the price that i picked up ur first book and that too immediately after it cameout…so i can defenitely say u still remain very people friendly by not raising the price…i know it must have been very very difficult in these times but kudos to u and ur team…my hubby will be really surprised
Comment by mayajayan — May 5, 2008 @ 8:29 pm
Hello Chetan,
Saw article about you in Brunch and was so eager to read your books that I went especially to a market 8 kms from my house to get both your books. Finished both of them in next 2 days (ofcourse, skipped my office for both these days
)
It was refreshing to say the least. Atleast something that we Indians can associate with…i was tired of reading fiction by foreign authors.
Keep writing… and Hope to see you at Gurgaon Promotion.

i have read both the books of yours. the FPS was fantastic book on IITs. but I would say it did give a very cool view of an engineer too.I am sure a lot of engineers around India connected with it too. I being an engineer, it was fun to know that the engineers in IIT also face the same problems like any engineer in a medicore college.

Hello Chetan,
I read the third book and found in similar flow to the previous 2. Are you planning to write the next book also into the same predictable flow or would you prefer to change the writing style?
The flow is simple and nice for everyone but we would want you to write something more indepth more about yourself or life of a particular character.

Hi Chetan,
Sorry |Even i know that your book will launch in Pune on 25th of may, I already arranged your third book.
|I spent two days to find it, and just 6 hours to read it.
|See i am not a good reader. I not often read books but whatever i do i do with full of heart and mind.
First i want to tell some good about the book.
1. The Story
2. The various word which you used in books to explain the situations, like meal |For Omi is not profitable.
3.Your Consistency in writing your style . for Eg Use the word “love”.
4.The great start of your book which attracts attention.
5.The great way of writing that proves that you know about something. Like Probability example for your knowledge of maths.Like word Orkut, Like word Benefit of Doubt that shows that you know something about LAW. Aust. players name about your cricket knowledge. The speech of that Gujarati person to tell about your knowledge of Hinduism. etc etc.
6.The way of linking the various major and shocking events like WTC attack, Godhra Kand,Gujrat violence, Cricket victory, Earthquake.amazing work.
7.Your style of writing the story in other persons language.
8. The main thing is your view about india and your heart which is connected with India. This book may opposed by some group of peoples but it will be fine soon as we all are with you.
Now lets talk about little Criticism:
1.I read one another book of Paulo Chelo. The opening line was Once upon a time there was a …..
I hope you read that book. The first para in that book is not forgettable by any one who read that book. Am i right? If yes i just expect similar kind of phrases from you which we cant forget.Of course his style of writing is different than you, but accepting a better things is never a wong idea.Ya one more good thing about you that we cant forget the characters of your books. |Keep it up
So i expect some more improvement in you in your next book.
Till than Best of luck 4 your wonderful work which not even make us happy but also give some way of thinking.
Take care. Bye. And Ya have a nice evening. And due to this mail, this time your coffee will not prohibited you to drink it.

hi Chetan,
I jz loved both ur books ,cudnt wait to lay my hands on ur 3rd book,i cant belive that ur coming to Hyderabad,i wil b there for sure, hopefully i wil get ur 3rd book, with ur autograph too.
my brother and sister have started reading jz bcz of u,they wanted to continue reading but they jz dont seem to like other authors as much as they like ur writing style.keep up d gud work.i also like ur marketing strategy of launching books, not like the snooty rich n famous writers who launch their books in 5 star hotels, where only VIP’s and VVIPS get to rub shoulders with the author, though it is d real people like us who make the book succesful……….n also ur books r very affordable,n lot of fun to read…..Gudluck with ur new career as a script writer, continue to write sensible stories which u have already been doing with ur books……..break b barriers….conventional type of stories that r being churned frm Indian film Industry……….may b one of ur coming movies or books wil make us proud of u.hopefully…..tkcr……..hope ur getng adjusted in India………after ur long stay abroad………

My views on “The Three Mistakes of My Life”…………….
Awakening a generation to reading takes more than some sheer magic and Chetan has proved that in sense more than one, he’s an Indian Rowling.
With his third novel, he has matured lot more and has ably intertwined serious real issues like Riots, Earthquakes, Cricket, Religions and Politics in a single package.
Characters in his tale are larger than life and often you feel them coming to life and making you feel emotions in a way, you never thought was possible.
His witty humor retains the charm exhibited in his previous worlds of IIT & Call Centers. Like his earlier works, his words on paper will soon translate to a colorful life on 35 mm this time as well.
A reader is left dumbstruck as Chetan captures the real soul of India in Cricket and spins a suspense marvel, which you can’t put down till Ali hits a six in London.
A blissful forbidden romance in midst of all gruesome tensions lends a special charm and Vidya’s persona scores a perfect century without even a single swing of a bat.
The delicacy of religious sentiments, the ferociousness of riots, the shrewdness of politics, the felicity of love, the bond of friendship and the craze of cricket everything finds an apt place in his imaginations.
Chetan is the undisputed King of author’s fraternity and no doubt his books have smashed sales records of 7 figures with ease.
Critics may continue questioning Chetan’s contribution to the literary universe, but the truth remains that words from his pen pluck the strings of Indian hearts in every dimension, like nothing else.

Hi Chetan,
Just completed ” the 3 mistakes of my life”. Good work. Specially the way u have handled the political angle. Liked the way you penned down the romantic angle between govind and vidya. Bitto mama was an interesting character. Chetan, in all the 3 books i have found one similarity and that is having a NUMBER in their titles. I mean “One”, “5″ and ofcourse “3″. Do tell me the story behind this someday. Keep up the gud work. Would like to meet u someday.

Hello Sir,
It took almost an hour for me to start and write for you and ultimately I could write wot you are reading currently as I am speecless about ur talent. I mean, m not telling lie but your first book FPS I had completed in a single sit only dats from morn 7 to 12 at night and unfortunately dat day was the last day of my clg life so it brought tears from my eyes. You had put the heart of mechanical engg. life in that book, i know dis as me too a mech engg. Your other book was also awesome I mean the way you describe all things are simply awesome. Really, India is missing you a lot and as a writer you are no less than Amitabh 4 bollywood n Sachin 4 cricket for sure. Pls b back sir.
The only bad quality about your book is that once any person read your book, he or she cannt read the other book as it looks boring.
At last, I pray God that by your books you not only win the hearts of the India but can also awaken the developing India.
If you reply to my id, i would consider my dream has come true although it may contain a single word also.
Thanks for giving such a wonderful books

Hello Chetan,
Read your new book last week and I must say it was better than your previous two works. By the way, is the e-mail shown in the prologue true? Is there really a Govind Patel? The reason I liked this book more than the other two was simply because it focussed on the general youth (not IITians or call-center employees), the religious politics angle too gave it a more realistic edge. The cricket statistics were perfect except for the 2nd Test Match between India and Australia at Kolkata- Harbhajan Singh had taken a hat-trick in the 1st innings and not the 2nd as mentioned. All-in-all, it was a fabulous effort on your part. Keep the good work coming!

Hi Chetan,
CONGRAGULATIONS!!
I should have written this post approximately 6 hours earlier when finished reading your new book by 4am in the morning, yesterday.
Generally, I like reading 2-4 pages at a time. However, yesterday I could just put down the book.
Congragulations!! You seem to have felt the pulse of Indian book readers. Apt price of the book, wonderful yet simple language and great story contents.
I think I had felt the same feeling after I read Five Point Someone, some years ago(I was a fresh engineering graduate at that time and the book made me more nostalgic).
Though honestly, I liked 5 point and 3 mistakes better than 1 night.
Pls keep up the good work and be rest assured that as a small fan of yours, I would encourage/ convince/ insist my colleagues & friends buy a copy of your new book, though I already have many pending requests from friends who has already asked me to share the book (when they knew I had placed an online-order for the book). This only proves that you have a huge fan following.
Love your writing.

hi chetan,
i’ve just finished your third book (in 3 hrs flat!)and once again i got the rush of reading an angrossing book. i stared feasting on your books when i was in NDA and we had a very sucessful play based on your first book in our academy(of course the heroine being our instructor’s wife n all we had a muted down version :D)…..but since then i eagerly awaited each of your susequent books. now i’ve one complaint or request…i look back at my NDA days and see many bittersweet memories and antics we did in training, flirting with fergussen girls in pune, tussles with coursemates, camaraderie in training excercises, ragging by seniors….which ,had i got the writing talent, could’ve threaded into a story . Now i have this faith that you read every mail sent to you and you are the only one, who can turn the story of a boy from civvie street turning into an army officer into a novel, which might attract youth into defence, a calling which is getting fewer and fewer takers nowadays…..
hoping for your reply…..
a fan.

Dear Chetan,
I was lucky enough to lay hands on your third book about three mistakes by Govind Patel. I liked all your books with a first preference to five point some one as it reminded my nostalgic hostel life in a Mumbai engineering collage in late seventies. I liked all the three books not only because of your excellent style of narration but the characters are such that the reader feels them around while reading and after.
I would like to add that I have purchased all the three books and not borrowed from a library or any other source. Hence, I can always say ‘PAISA VASOOL’.
May God provide you the necessary inspiration and energy to continue such excellent efforts.

The first novel which i read was “ONE NIGHT @ CALL CENTER”. It was just awesome. at some points, i was just slept. but it kept me bounded. The next was “THE 3 MISTAKES OF MY LIFE.” During which i have just lost my sleeps….
then I have (SORRY A BIT YEARS LATE………….) gone through “FIVE POINT SOMEONE” and i was just thinking and thinking of my college life. Presently I am working in a SOFTWARE FIRM “CONTRACT LABOUR AT CHEAP PRICES FOR FOREIGNERS” HE HE HE HE……
anyways CHETAN , I have updated you name in WIKIPEDIA’s IIT DELHI ALUMNI LISTS……
It was needed there also.
hope to get a reply from u. as i am mailing this to you also…

Hi Chetan,
i read ur first book out of curiosity. i wanted to how an IITD boy describes the IIT life, particularly when i could relate myself to some extent, because i was also doing MTech there during ur time.I must say u did an excellent job.I strongly recommended to or rather forced my friends( the IItians and Jia Saraites) to buy, and more importantly to go through atleast first few pages in front of me. Ur literary skill did rest of the job. Once they started they finished it. Now all of us have gone through your IInd and the latest book “The three Mistakes of My Life” too. Chetan, I really wanted to thank you for providing us the joy of reading. Yes, u r making India read. i wish u all the success in ur life and may u be india’s ( or Indians across the globe) most appreciated, sorry correction , the most loved writer

Hi Chetan,
This is devang, MBA HR, not from IIM!!! I have read your Five Point Someone, according to me when you find the character or characters, in a movie or in a book are like you, their style, their hobby, their thinking matches with you, then the movie or the book is liked by you.
In Five Point Some, i like Hari most. You wrote whole book suparb.
Now i am going to start 3 mistakes.
Please do reply.
Regards,
Devang

Hi Chetan
Reading ON@CC since last night [for the first time] and turning addicted to the writing style u adapted. Appreciable for people who are more into classic hindi literature since long.
- I hope you visit Indore - Madhya Pradesh too sometime.
You being a great Chef, cuisines from Indore are desperate to be served for you.

I don’t remember much about Five point someone but yes i like the romantic stint between the Hari and Neha a lot. And Govind’s character was very strong and it’s quite inspiring. His romance with Vidya is my another favourite. But i have a doubt - was it just fictitious or do some girls really take initiative
Hey i couldn’t give you any suggestions but request you to keep writing novel atleast once every year.
