  7. Hey Chetan,

Needless to say I’ve read FPS & ON@TCC. I was also present at Crossword when you’d launched One Night. I’ve my copies signed by you and they’re my prized possession. I read your interview in Brunch today and that’s how I got to know about your third book.

I’ve read the excerpt of The 3 Mistakes of My Life. I can’t tell you how much am I waiting to lay my hands on the third book. Although I fear your fans don’t start sending out suicide emails hoping you’d visit them as well. The cover looks marvelous. Will have to wait a little more to know all about Govind, his friends, cricket, business, religion and everything else you’ve to write about them all.

In any case, wish you all the luck and success for your upcoming book and all future endeavors in life. Will see you at Phoenix Mills on Thu, May 8th 7pm.

  21. Hi Chetan,
I understand ur so busy with the launch of new book that its nearly impossible to answer each and everyone’s query and blogs but thanks for answering my earlier queries and its so nice of u that u had kept the price so low that every one can afford to buy that book bcoz book piracy is such a big problem in India and particularly in Bombay.
Thanks once again and best wishes for “The 3 Mistakes of my life”

  22. Hi Chetan,
I was in one of the IITs (not as a student) for sometime. Your first book FPS was out that time, but then I didn’t get a chance to read that. Sometime back, I got that as a gift and after reading that, lots of mysteries I had surrounding the IIT Btech guys got solved ;). It is a wonderful piece of writing, which is really fresh in style. Two days back, I started with your ON@TCC and that’s also really gripping. And checking your site today, I saw your ‘3′ is releasing on May 8th. I am going to get it at the earliest and am pretty sure, it’s going to make a good read. All the best for ‘3′.

  23. hi chetan,

i read ur both the books. FPS was simply fantastic but i never expected One night @ call center to do exceedingly as well..but it turned out to be …while reading immediate connection is established …and we realise we face similar situations more often in our lives but u brought out the humour & learning out of it, which we so easily ignore….

looking forward to read more of CB’s

  25. HI Chetan
I dont know from where but I have just read a small excerpt from ‘3 mistakes’. It sounds really interseting and I am sure you will be successfull with this one also but I am having a doubt in my mind. I wanted to know from you that how much for these narrations are really your life experience and how much is the imagination.

  32. hi CB
just read the excerpt…..liked it…but 1 prob…when i clicked the link u provided on ur mail 2 me after i signed for more excerpts 4m ur TM2L(short 4 The Three Mistakes of My Life),it asks me again 2 give e-mail ids of my frnds……..moreover after AGAIN providing ids……it didn’t give me the excerpt……that’s not good…..
…..as ur TM2L seems 2 be VERY interesting…..i’m desperate 2 finsih reading it ASAP.

ur FPS was JHAKKAS….it simply hooked me
but that was not with ONC2….truly speaking….i was bored……i was wondering how can an author of that calibre(i find it after reading FPS) could produce a book like ONC2…

by the way…..i hope 2 lay my hands on TM2L book by 2morrow evening…….as this time there is none of my IIT frnds who can lend me his book…as was the case with the earlier 2….

and yes thanks 4 giving us a moment 2 enjoy thru ur books.

    keep writing…..

  36. Hi Chetan,

This is Chirag Patel from Ahmedabad. An Engg. grad. working with an
    MNC at Delhi.

This is my first ever mail to any author as such in my life span of
25 yrs. Today I just started your latest book ” The 3 mistakes of my
life “. As usual, like with ur previous books also, I simply sticked to
    book once started.

Just during first chapter itself, I found at many places the ”
Amdavad ” word has been misspelled by ” Ambavad “. I am sure you must be
knowing this fact and this would have been only printing mistake.

But frankly speaking, it was my wish to mail you is more than that
the word correction. I simply love the way you write and style of
changing the whole emotions at many places during story by putting some funny
    and humour lines. Simply delightful.

Ok. I just wish you will correct the word ( Amdavad ) in your next
    printing lot of book.

I, on behalf of all your readers, wish you ALL THE BEST for your
future and we are sure you will never disappoint us.

i am not sure how should i address you, but i think bhaiya could do fine, since uncle doesn’t go with your image.

    bhaiya,

i have read FPS 14 times ,i like this book very much. being a student and preparing for engg entrances made me connect with it instantly.
But this new book of yours is surely a mile ahead. This was better than your previous books..
a more captivating plot , great emotional depth and insight into character’s lives made it strike a chord immediately.
the story showed me what i as a young child could not see.

It made me laugh and cry,

it was so captivating that i finished it in 4 hours flat.
thank you for adding another beautiful book of yours into my library.

    you are an idol.jai hind.

  49. Hi Chetan,

Sorry |Even i know that your book will launch in Pune on 25th of may, I already arranged your third book.
    |I spent two days to find it, and just 6 hours to read it.
    |See i am not a good reader. I not often read books but whatever i do i do with full of heart and mind.

First i want to tell some good about the book.
    1. The Story
    2. The various word which you used in books to explain the situations, like meal |For Omi is not profitable.
3.Your Consistency in writing your style . for Eg Use the word “love”.
4.The great start of your book which attracts attention.
5.The great way of writing that proves that you know about something. Like Probability example for your knowledge of maths.Like word Orkut, Like word Benefit of Doubt that shows that you know something about LAW. Aust. players name about your cricket knowledge. The speech of that Gujarati person to tell about your knowledge of Hinduism. etc etc.
6.The way of linking the various major and shocking events like WTC attack, Godhra Kand,Gujrat violence, Cricket victory, Earthquake.amazing work.
7.Your style of writing the story in other persons language.
    8. The main thing is your view about india and your heart which is connected with India. This book may opposed by some group of peoples but it will be fine soon as we all are with you.

Now lets talk about little Criticism:
1.I read one another book of Paulo Chelo. The opening line was Once upon a time there was a …..
I hope you read that book. The first para in that book is not forgettable by any one who read that book. Am i right? If yes i just expect similar kind of phrases from you which we cant forget.Of course his style of writing is different than you, but accepting a better things is never a wong idea.Ya one more good thing about you that we cant forget the characters of your books. |Keep it up

So i expect some more improvement in you in your next book.
Till than Best of luck 4 your wonderful work which not even make us happy but also give some way of thinking.

Take care. Bye. And Ya have a nice evening. And due to this mail, this time your coffee will not prohibited you to drink it.

i rate 5.someone on top. 2nd would be 3 mistakes of my life and then the on@cc.
good luck for ur future novels.. :)

  57. Dear sir,

The book is wonderful. I actually found it to be better than d previous two.
I loved the very intricate descriptions and also the fact that the story revolves around three characters or “ideas”,to be precise. The book had me laughing my guts out and also wiping off my tears(at times).I think its a beautiful book also because it deals with the riots and earthquake and how people’s lives are affected by them.

Thank you for writing “the 3 mistakes of my life”. It has been a pleasure reading it.

But I have a question -Why does someone have to die in your stories?

  60. Hi Chetan,

Congratulations for your latest release. I came on to this site to tell everyone that you really make me read. I never read books/novels till i put my eyes on 5 point someone. I really enjoyed the book, the style of writing. I could actually imagine stuff and apply it to my life. I read the second one “One night at the call centre”.
I was so happy to see “3 Mistakes of my life” as soon as I saw By Chetan Bhagat, the book was in my shopping cart.
Started reading it at night and could not stop till mid-night. I was laughing all alone. Some situations were so funny, my stomach started paining with laughter.

Thanks a lot Chetan for writing such a wonderfull book.

As the story progressed, it only got interesting though
I was stumped out in climax(I really feel, it could have been different)!!!
The problems discussed in book are also relavent (& thought provoking).
Overall, it’s just another feather in cap of Mr.Bhagat!!!
    Thanks for beautiful novel!

  64. Chetan, I’ve written you in a personal mail but you didn’t reply as you’ve mentioned, you’re dead busy with ceremony of the 3. I belong to Ahmedabad n so kindly I would like to draw attention of all readers about a few mistakes which you’ve commited in your book!

    1. it’s “Amdavad” in Gujarati, not “Ambavad”
    2. Name of the area is “Behrampura”, not “Behlampur”. It seems you didn’t go for enough survey about city name itself n areas. “nana park” is also not the correct one!
    3. Earthquack was on 26th jan 2001. Your book starts in march 2000 and after saving money for 2 yeas, Gopal booked that shop which was crashed in earthquack!!! I wonder how could you do such a mistake?

Anyway, I’ve finished the book by 10th may itself, just like 1night@call center. I would like to say, 3 was more of a typical masala kind of book like a bolywood movie. It was humourous for sure but how could you write for money, yaar. I mean, when i read 5.some1, I was floored on you. I was eagerly waiting n hoping for your next book which was cool too. nothing matches 5.some1 for sure. sorry for being so curt but just can’t help it as I thought you’re a different person who doesn’t work for money but writes passionately.

Nevermind, I would still write your 4th book if you write in future as I still believe you n your worth.

    Have nice times.

  73. Hi Chetan,

I just finished reading “The 3 Mistakes of my life” its again a fantastic creation of yours however i found the charm missing as compared to the 2 books earlier the topics you picked were good1 Riotsand Earthquake esp were untouched in contrast with the youth. But what i felt while reading it was i lost intrest at some places which was continously there in your earlier creations.

I aspire to be a writer and have written 8 short stories and have always dreamt of seeing my name in authors like you, vikram seth, shashi tharur, anita desai etc.

I will be mailing you a couple of my stories shortly.

Please evaluate and if possible do give me a feedback.

I just finished reading 3 mistakes ..yesterday!!
Good stuff but definitely cannot be compared to ‘Five point someone’..
I was expecting something new this time but it turned out to be the same
    friends-caught-up-in-big-problems kind of story.

Expecting something different from you next time.[:)]

    Comment by Divya — May 25, 2008 @ 3:17 pm

  76. Hello Chetan,

Well i agree with Divya somewhere but i guess i had the same problem when i read continiously your previous books.

A)Five point some one was the Legend.

B)One night@Call center again was good but it didn’t get grip for few days because it felt same way as before, so i picked one jefery Archer book just for a different taste and then i went back to One Night… it agin became another legend.

C)The 3 mistakes of my Life– is another wonderful book, which finished yesterday, and still in a hangover.I wish you would have kept complete Happy ending..without ending my fav. character.

You have that magic of Story writing..it gives an experience of watching movie.
I love to read people minds, you write a complete story on them..i guess we have more or less 500 million people in this world and half of them share same nature. You can write about atleast 50(negotiable) books in a year. I like your work so do my all friends.

i feel lucky that i got to read all three books of yours, and still waiting for new arrivals.
    All the Best and Congratulations.

P.S: Heard thet, Five point someone soon will be a movie…please try this almost impossible thing, try casting Sharukh Khan, Salman khan, Amir khan.

  77. Dear Chetan;

Hi, Congrats on your third book.

I think its too big conversation with u and it require lots of time to read and think but I request u “chetan” please read this one because it helps me lot to extract my bloody thoughts. Because I think “GDHARA” please readout yaar “khuda ke liye”

With this “OUR” book One thing I would like to point out on page no. 11 regarding the conversations associated with respect to TV with G.Patel and his mom (I think the first conversation with his mom; and latter in book where after earthquake G.Patel switch on the TV to see exactly what happen on TV.?????????? Again I m not interested to find mistake in “MASTERPIECE”(I think this is master stroke from all of above your novel not your but of all novel available in library in all languages (I read only two languages Gujarati and English)

Actually my work and my superior taught me to always find mistake in masterpiece however that’s part of life.

Honestly I m saying I m more eager to highlighted my depthless and attachment with character of this book while I reading this novel (I read this novel by bunking my factory work hours(in fact two days) ; I m working in company (not a college student)) and read same on railway platform

I think on spending two days on reading and thinking on the content of this book; I associated all people on station in these two days with character of this book I find each of character on station whether; G.Patel;Omi;Omi’s mama OR ALI OR his papa;Vidya etc……all are available on station.

Why I write all these “CHETAN” because chetan this is not a book; this is a mirror image of India and I think “MOB” is more suitable word in spite of India. I m 100 percent sure that u r also not comfortable as well as not proud (I also not felling to be proud while reading as Indian or (part of mob)) while writing the issue associated before and after “GODHARA” incidence in this book

“And after all u dedicated this book to our country.”

I m sure that no one like to read again of the last page of book related to how to save Ali’s Life? This is really image of India (or mob or our country) clearly seen in it and no one of us really be proud for that? Because we all are part of that bloody mob. we all are happy while irfan took wickets or while shahrukh dances with pretty girls; when we all are alone

But when we together in “MOB” we did every thing what u described in your book; because I heard not heard but memorized all comments associated with Godhara and post Godhara riots in FEB 2001 and even latter sensitive issue regarding “STRING OPERATION” on godhara issue on ajjtak just before the Gujarat election and again I heard same “NON SENSE” comment from all educated MOB and u also known who won the election………. this is not full stop but big “QUESTIONMARK” on our country feature with this bloody mob. Because we never like to analyze the situation independently we always like to speak other Bloody people word blindly and million others too. I think from Feb 2001 NOT FROM FEB 2001 but from where I understand the word what is Hindu and Muslim.

where all these stop; where all these end where we live together?????????????????

And after all chetan I m keenly interested that “PLEASE MAKE MOVIE ON THIS FILM BECAUSE WE NEED MOVIE ON THIS TOPIC NOT WE REQUIRED MOVIE LIKE HELLO OR THREE IDIOTS”

U are well associated with film industry and making film on this subject will really a big slap on this mob because we only have one medium that is film that each one had understood because I think each has its own brain either they all r part of mob and from if any thing like “Godhara incidence” happen in future they see ali or dhirag in that mob. and from amongst all of us one OMI or ISH or GOVIND PATEL will have been stood up to save Ali.

And one thing people learnt faster from surrounding ;( Best example is first conversation of OMI with Ali’s father on secularism; fortunately Omi understood all in latter in this book but unfortunately this is book while u arrange all according to your thoughts and in life every thing end with same opinion just like what bitto mama have)

Frankly I also know that making film on this sensitive issue is not easy as to arrange training for ali in Australia but “CHETAN” u will have to have do it man;because we have to create ali and of course OMI;ISH and Govind and spread thoughts of ali’s father in all this mob so after sometime some one converted this MOB or us in to an Indians

And last but not least the reason why u has to make this film on this subject because…………………………………..

“U dedicated this book to our country which called you back”

Waiting for intense action of your and BEST OF LUCK

    Regards

  78. Hi Chetan,

I read both books of yours a while ago, I liked both of them and could relate myself with the second one, I can put myself in the character of protagonist,be it his professional life of romantic,I found both books fantastic but I have some complaints which I think are there because people me have started counting on you. Ya my complaints:
1.You do touch some very sensitive issue but
    >you just don’t go well into depth, probably behind the scene you go or may be just to make your novel to be read in light mood you don’t address the reality much.
    >I know you are not a reformer but you must look to find a transcendental purpose in your writing
    >Your answers to the question that you yourself raise are very animated, rather I would say your question raise a sense of hope in otherwise disappointed people but your answers kill that hope.
I am not writer but I do write for myself,I can see your writing and trust me a lot others like me have myriad hopes from you.
I gotta go but shall keep you posted

  88. Hi Chetan. I am a software engineer from Pune. I have just finished reading ‘3 Mistakes of my life’. Though it sounds as filmy as One Night@Call Center, I have absolutely no issues/complains regarding the book. I enjoyed it till the last word. Sometimes, it so happens that you like the characters in the book so much that after finishing the book an emptiness appears in your life for some days. I am still wondering or rather worrying about Ali’s future in Indian Cricket Team, Vidya’s following life with Govind, Govind’s friendship with Ish, Omi’s unlikely death and the stupid religious fanatism which will never stop intimidating our lives in the time to come. I started writing this comment to ask you whether this story “really” existed or not. But as I progressed and started analysing the whole plot, it no more concerns me now. The characters are alive and kicking in my mind and story’s falsity won’t prompt them to be spurious. To be frank, I did not like your second book and ‘Five Point Someone’ still enjoys the higher status than the third book. But I must tell you that your writing has some mystical thing which incited a James Joyce-fan like me to quickly purchase ‘3 Mistakes…’ at overcrowded Chandigarh Bus Stand at 12 O’clock in the mid-night a week ago as soon as I read your name underneath the title…

  93. Hey Chethan. Great Work!!! Just finished reading your third book. You indeed are a Magician when it comes to getting your views across to large masses, concealed in tiny packets of cricket, unconditional friendship, sweet teenage romance, the dirty politics and the senseless religion-ism! As a Neurosurgeon found the Hyper reflex condition secondary to some wrong wiring in the brain a little too much to bite, but the rest of the entire book was simply fabulous!!! Definitely another blockbuster movie! Only hitch being protests from some senseless, empty headed religious politicians!

Keep the good work going ! I have become your fan after this one. All the best!

  97. Hey,

I’ve never enjoyed a book as much as I enjoyed FPS. It was hillarious, is an understatement. I’d laugh thinking about some scenes even today. I’m was on post partum recovery when I read the book a few months ago(I’ve had this book on my shelf for over 3 years, just din’t get around reading it earlier!). The book gave a good filip to my mood then and I just can’t believe the number of books I’ve read since , it set the pace for good reading.I also think you’ve set the trend for people to sit up and take notice of Indian Writing. The number of books that get released in the Indian Writing Category makes you wonder if it will some day equal the number of IIM passouts! I’d read ON@CC earlier and that was a good book too. Book 3 is a disappointment of sorts. I also like the way you’ve presented your blog! Keep entertaining!!!!!!

  101. Hello Mr. Chethan,
I’d read two of your books, FPS and 3 Mistakes. FPS was awesome. I really got back to the memories of my B.E life. 3 Mistakes was also good, but kind of a climax of bollywood movies in the end. Overall I enjoyed reading your books and I thank you a lot for providing a book which can be read without getting bored.

  105. Dear Chetan,

I am 43 so I think I can call you by name.

Some comments about your latest book:

Page 61, a spelling has to be corrected: ‘look’ should be ‘took’.
Page 129, Harbhajan did the hat trick in the first innings, on the very first day of the match and not during the 2nd innings as you wrote. I was present on the first day at Eden Gardens.
Through out the tale we never had any idea or scent that Govind loves to read. His habits are to the contrary. How come he e-mailed you before committing suicide ? A connection with him and books or with your name could have been hinted.

Just like your prevoius two, I could not put down this book and had to complete the same within 24 hours, though not within the same calendar day. It must be a success.

Shall wait eagerly for the next one.

Can your next story be placed in Kolkata?

  108. Hey Dude…the latest addition to the bookshelf is a gud one but still I ll rate FPS as the best one of all 3…as it is more practical and really close to any hosteller’s life..I can simply imagine my gang in hostel in place of u three in FPS and relive my hostel days .I njoyed reading the other two but somewhere I feel that they are more from the creative part(inspired by movies kind stuff) …Neways keep writing either from creative part or practical part…..All the best..

  118. hi chetan sir…
it was an beautifull journey while i was reading ur book 3 mistakes of my life…i got deeply impressed by reading it..to tell u i m myself n theatre actor working in delhi.sir i wanted to share some of my points which i noted while i was reading ur book…i found myself very close to govind sumwere…(bt not at maths….i scored 33% in my 10th) and till the end of the book i was totally in luv wid vidya…but did’nt understood omi???is it necessary to always show a “bhondu” kind of boy in smart ones?????i knw u build up his character strong in the end but still there were sumthings which never attracted me towards him……..i loved ishaan…before joining theatres i was a lot like him(just in case i missed..”I HATE CRICKET” rest was really close to me…..ur biggest asset as an writer is that u make xtraordinary images by ur words….i m very junior to u bt still i’ll like to sugest u to direct a play…….then i also read “one night @the call center”…..its also a fab. work…now i m looking forward to read ur’s five point someone…..i wish u all the sucess in life n hope u do the same for me….n the time u start the play its my request i wud also like to act in it…….
    ur’s faithfully

Well obviously since m visiting your official website n posting comments, I have to be a fan of your writings!! I do have read all 3 of your books & they are good. :) The thing about not evaluating & disecting & comparing your other works, its a little difficult, cause I think its human nature to compare!! :( At the same time, you cannot just compare your kids!! Its true, no parents can ever do it!

You shouldnt keep so much break betw your releases!! Youth look up 2 ur writings n wait for them!!! DO keep bloging!!!
