Dear All,
I cannot remember the last time I wrote a personal blog entry. There was a time, not so long ago; I used to do this regularly. Twitter spoils us. You can get away with posting one line, and have everyone see it immediately. However, Twitter doesn’t allow elaboration of thoughts, or the feelings behind them. Mostly it is ok, but every now and then, I feel the need to share more with my readers. This happens especially before a book launch. It is the time when I am most vulnerable emotionally, and expressing myself helps.
So, here were go again. Another book releases in less than twenty days. Revolution 2020, something I have lived with for the last two years, is finally going to be out there in the world on October 8th 2011. Countless opinions shall follow, and the book will finally find its place in the world. I remember the how nervous I had felt right before the release of 2 States, my last book in October 2009. I had gone to ISKCON temple in Mumbai the night before and blogged about it later. I do not feel as much nervousness, at least as yet. Maybe I have matured, maybe I am confident about Revolution 2020, and maybe I am just numb. I need to get away for a while, and will share more about that in a moment.
A lot has changed for me in the two years since the last book. More than anything, I think the readership is wider and broader than it ever was before. This is for the following reasons:
- My last book 2 States, became the most widely read of all my works. For the first time, I saw housewives and senior citizens pick up my book in large numbers, perhaps connecting to the universal theme of marriage and parental approval.
- After 2 States, 3 Idiots, an adaptation of Five Point Someone, came out in December 2009. The movie did extraordinarily well, and reached places where none of my books had reached. Almost anywhere in India I travelled, I found a new set of readers for my books, who had picked them up after watching 3 Idiots.
- In 2009, I started doing columns for English and Hindi newspapers. Every two weeks since then, I have had a chance to share my thoughts about the nation with a totally different set of readers – the people who read editorial pages, but not necessarily my books. Both TOI and Dainik Bhaskar have readership in crores, and it will be interesting to see if my column readers pick up Revolution 2020.
- In the last two years, Twitter and Facebook exploded as well. Millions of readers now connect with me through these two sites and they are a source of constant support for me.
In light of the above developments, it would be interesting to see the initial response to Revolution 2020. I try to not think about the magnitude of expectations, and for that reason I think it would be a good idea to get away for a while. Hence, even though the book launch is right around the corner, starting tomorrow I shall be in Thailand for a yoga retreat for a week. I will be somewhat disconnected from India and I think that will help settle my mind right before the launch. The program is supposed to be quite tough, as you don’t really eat much the entire week (a glass of juice per day is what I have been told!). Thus, in the middle of all these high profile fasts in the country, I’d be getting away to do my own, and mostly for my own sake.
On the personal front, my twin boys have grown up. They are seven years old now. They were born just two months after my first book came out. Thus, in some ways they reflect my age as an author – still quite young, and hopefully, a long way to go. It is fun to be at home and watch them grow up, even though they disturb me every now and then from my writing. But as Krish says in 2 States – ‘what is life without being disturbed by the right people?’
Anusha is busy at work. She is Chief Operating Officer at her bank, which as you can guess from the title, is quite a big deal. People often call her superwoman. She has maintained her career, brought up twins well and handled a crazy husband. I think she is quite a role model for Indian women.
Apart from books, I spend my time doing talks, which have grown tremendously over the last two years. It is from these talks that Revolution 2020 was born. The talks help me stay connected to India. At the same time, they make my schedule hectic. In the last one year alone, I visited 55 cities.
Hence, I have become terrible at replying to calls, messages and keeping in touch. One of my goals after Revolution 2020 is to simplify life, be more selective in what I choose to do, and make more time for family, friends and myself.
For now however, I have to bring my new baby to the world. Revolution 2020 carries fantastic feedback from the people who have read it, so frankly I am not too worried. To keep things simple, I would do the initial launches only in Mumbai and Delhi, and then get to other cities in a few weeks. I will post details on the same later. This time the title of the book doesn’t reveal so much about the story, but I think that will add to the fun of reading it. I can’t wait for your feedback.
I hope the book launches go well. After all that, in December, I have also promised my family that I will take them on a nice long vacation, especially after the book launch madness, and a part of me is looking forward to that as well.
Thank you once again for your constant support through the years – in almost everything I have attempted to do. I always say: my personal goals in life are already met. I now live for people who have made me – you, my readers.
With that, I better go pack for my 7-day escape before the madness.
Don’t be serious, be sincere.
Love,
Chetan

Hi Chetan,
Today i bought a copy of R2020. I have spend almost 9 hours being spell bound to it and finished it.
This message is for Gopal (if he is real), We make mistakes in our life. But that does not make us a Bad person. I believe that he is a good person.
Hat’s off to your writing Chetan.
Hi sir,
Ur R2020 is not a story it is surely the story of someone who handed yuo over. Ur this novel did not make me sleep for days during & after finish. It seemed to me that someone stole my writings and patented on his name. I want to meet you as possible as near but how? I know nothing….. Please send me your message soon………..
why did u make ur hero as a begger for his love……?
Its not fair sir……..
Hi my dear chetan.
You are pathetically write in this world for every time for your novel.
You are fabulous dear. I love to read your novel again and again. I feel a warm feeling after reading Revolution 2020, u did a fabulous job.
I even respect Gopal as he only makes possible to get married with arti to Raghav.
He really do true love with arti but just because of his blender mistake he himself spoils his life. But i think this is called as “LIFE”.
I Love u lot. Miss u lot
From
Sneha
Was this really a true story..??
Hi Chetan Ji,
Really liked the story and the way it is written.
The best part is, the story is written in such a way anyone can narrate himself to it.
Missing Gopal and Aarti badly, wanted them to be together but LOVE is all about SACRIFICE and true intentions..
Amazing and wonderful book.
And most importantly yeah GOPAL IS A GOOD MAN..

CHETAN YOU ARE SUPERGOD.
Fuck the corruption..
Love yu sir.
Hello Chetan,
There is no need to say that you are really an awsome writer. You connect easily to the ‘Youngistaan’ of India.
‘Revoluton 2020′ is a really good novel. But I think the Title of the novel doesnt really match with the content that is inside. Because the novel contains the love story part more than the Revolution part.
Also I have a few questions regarding the story. Firstly, Is it inspired by a true story?
And secondly, what was going through Aarti’s mind? Whom did she love actually? Was it Gopal or Raghav? Or simply the money.
Because in the story Aarti always fell for the one who was richer and more successful. And was ready to dump the weaker one.

hi sir……
Pls tell whether it is a real story ????
“Revelution 2020 ” is my first english novel/book i ever read/completed in my life,and i finished it within 4 days(almost 9 hours).
On these days,im thinking about the story while am at office or walk.It given me nys mood to work hard. after office hours im hurry back to my room to continue the book.Gopal’s lives given me some kinda attraction in apositive manner ,Raghav’s very brave N have creative ideas,Flying Aarty’s simpliness and her ease of care in relationships attracts me lotz….Anyway Gopal is special Romantic characterin his every thinks and dialogs about Aarty…mostly i love the book to read…and im used to read any novel or boooks.waiting for ur next book chetan ji… For me “Revelution” dumped on me as a “Novel/Book hater changed to Book/Novel lover”…
Hello Chethan sir,
i read ur R2020….
i liked every part in it… specially wen u said that u met Aarti Kashyap,Guest Relations Officer(in d epilogue), i slammed the book… that part touched my heart…
But u never let Gopal to think above Aarti. U just portrayed him like a beggar for ‘love’… that’s too bad… i think its injustice u did to Gopal’s character….
And finally is it inspired with the true story??? if so wut is Gopal,Aarti and Raghav currently doing?
Ur wellwisher……

amazaing.is it a real story? plz reply,.
is this a real story???? y ths happened to gopal????
Hi Chetan,
The way you write its really appreciable. Good work.
In regards to R2020
Gopal should have married aarti and believed in himself to do better for the society, but he believed in Raghav for good deeds than himself.
Thanks
Hi I am really inspired by Gopal’s story, but some questions do arise me why couldn’t Arti see the love from Gopal right from their school days , why was she always so diverted to Raghav?
Is this story based on real life characters. If yes , how are the three Raghav, Gopal and Arti doing in their lives??
Loved the Book so much and didn’t have read an awesome book as this one in a while…
agar koi yaha pad rha he to sun le mere dost k karan mere 8 ghante barbad ho gae
Hi Chetan,
First response – Feb7 & mine is the last one for today. Obviously more responses would be pouring in. However, to note that every response, generally, is with a question… is this a true story?
Please respond.
I am just not able to focus on anything else but… Gopal & Aarti. Not just the sacrifice of Gopal but also the pain that Aarti will bear throughout her life. Any young couple I see on the road… it’s only Gopal & Aarti I can think off.
That slam book, that lovely poem, the cake… that night of Aarti’s marriage… Gopals breakdown…
Don’t know when I’ll get over this.
Also, I would like to say that you are one amazing story teller of our times. Can’t wait for a sequel on Revolution 2020… Whatever it may be. (Hey, you are doing a sequel. Right?)
Regards
Ashish

Please reply.
Hi Chetan,
It’s really awesome story……..
Is it a true story????????????
Please reply.
This is the book which i loved most among all your books. All the emotions of the characters in the story are experienced by me while reading the novel. I think that is what every reader wants to feel while reading one.
Really hats off.
I stopped reading the novel in the end when aarti comes and says ‘ Happy birthday to you.. Oh my god!’
I expected what’s gonna happen and i don’t want it to be so.
It has touched my heart.
Is it a true story?
As many readers have the same doubt i think you should respond to this question.
Gopal is great if he is real.
